You eat food, the digestive juices change it into simple sugars like glucose making the food capable of being absorbed by your body cells.
This glucose is used as fuel energy by your body. Once the fuel is ready, it enters and takes a train (your blood stream) to every cell in your body.
On arrival at the cell (which is its station), the sugars cannot just leave the train and walk into a cell. They need a visa called “Insulin” to enter the cell. No visa, no admission; defective visa, again no admission. Without insulin, the cell does not accept the fuel. The cell may, in some cases, even refuse to accept the sugar though insulin is present.
Your pancreas is the visa office, it produces the hormone, Insulin. Normally, it also adjusts the production of insulin to meet the concentration of sugars in the blood. Malfunction in the pancreas impairs the production of insulin.
