It’s that time of the year when there’s spring in every step and a flower blooming everywhere… Spring might look colourful and enchanting but it comes with its own baggage, especially for diabetics.

Spring brings with it a whole load of allergy issues with it and if you are diabetic you need to keep the sugar level in complete control along with the allergy drugs.

Sniffling, sneezing, stuffiness are very common allergies that occur during spring and there a lot of oral drugs, nasal sprays, eye drops which are available off the counter at chemists and stores but in case you are suffering from diabetes you need to involve a doctor before you use any of these off the counter medications to treat the allergies as they might throw your sugar levels out of control.

Proper advice and guidance from a doctor might help prevent such situations. Monitoring glucose levels more often than you regularly do and increasing the dose of the medication might be ways in which the doctors could help overcome these issues.

Sometimes decongestants may bring relief to allergies but they may also cause an imbalance in the blood pressure levels which is also detrimental to the diabetes. It is very important hence to also keep the blood pressure in check if you are administering anti allergy drugs.

As a safe bet try to plan more indoor fun and activities so that you are not exposed to the pollen in the air which usually is the cause of most allergies. Also try to be clean and shower once you come back from outdoors so that the pollen from the hair and body is washed away. Using air conditioners and air filters would be a good idea to filter the allergens.
