THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BECOMING ILL FROM SOMETHING THAT YOU ATE OR DRANK.

It is essentially an illness caused by bacteria or other toxins in food, typically with vomiting and diarrhea. On its own this does not sound very alarming, but if we add the term diabetes to this, the situation becomes worth a lot of stress!! Let’s understand why.

FOOD SAFETY IS MORE THAN AN ABSTRACT TOPIC FOR ANYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED OR KNOWS ABOUT FOOD POISONING.

When one suffers from diabetes some of the organs and systems of the body, stop functioning correctly like:

Immune system which normally is meant to fight off germs instantly and hence protecting the body against harmful bacteria and other pathogens that cause infections but in the case of diabetics the system becomes week and fails to recognize harmful bacteria and pathogens. This places diabetics at a higher risk of encountering infections.

ONE IMPORTANT WAY TO MANAGE YOUR DIABETES IS BY FOLLOWING PROPER FOOD SAFETY PRACTICES.

Gastrointestinal tract this tract normally helps to digest all the food and liquids that one consumes very quickly and easily. But in the case of diabetics the cells that create stomach acid and the nerves that help your stomach digest food are damaged which leads to the stomach holding the food and liquids for a much longer period of time hence allowing the germs and pathogens to grow leading to infections.

Kidneys are typically meant to flush out harmful toxins and hence protect the body from infections. In case of diabetics the kidneys fail to perform their functions to the fullest and are unable to flush out the harmful pathogens completely hence diabetics are at very high risk of infections. Kidney failure due to diabetes is very common.

To reduce the risk of food poisoning and infections one must be very careful with the cleanliness and correct choices of food. Cutting, chopping and cleaning the food very intensely before consuming is of utter importance to keep infections at an arm’s length. Recovery might take very long and sometimes prove to be fatal for diabetics; hence we say prevention is better than cure!!!
