The fad of video games has corrupted the youth. Kids, especially teenagers are addicted onto these games at the cost of outdoor play. By forgoing their exercise, sleep, physical activity and sitting on the couch playing video games leads to obesity which in turn puts these kids at a higher risk for diabetes experts have warned.

Research suggests that getting more sleep could help teenagers’ lower levels of insulin resistance and reduce their chance of developing the potentially lethal condition.

It has been seen that boys love their video games more than the fairer sex. Why this is so, is still not clear. However, with the advent of newer video games- x box, wii, even girls are getting addicted to these jamming sessions!

Traditional gaming involved sitting quite still in front of a screen for several minutes, if not several hours. While on the couch, gamers tend to get hungry and thirsty and the snacks of choice are rarely the healthy type. All this leads to unhealthy eating habits, resulting in obesity. So it is commonly understood that spending too much time sitting in front of the TV, gaming or otherwise, can be damaging to one´s health.

In the battle for health, video games have been viewed as the enemy. But a new variety of these electronic diversions called “exergames” may actually be beneficial mentally and physically, to both young and old people. As the obesity epidemic is on the rise and Americans struggle to get active, video games that make players move may be just what the doctor ordered.
