We are all aware of the importance of exercise in today’s day and age and if you are suffering from diabetes, exercising regularly must become a very integral part of your daily routine. Good swimming workouts and routinely are a very good form of exercise whether you are suffering from type1, or type2 diabetes.

Swimming workouts are a great form of cardiovascular fitness and it allows one to pump blood and oxygen more efficiently; at the same time it does not affect you joints as in the case of sports like running, tennis etc. It helps you burn a good 300 to 400 calories an hour and helps you to work out the upper and lower body at the same time, unlike most other sports.

Swimming as a form of exercise is very soothing and calming both mentally and physically and most of all there are no age restrictions. People suffering from arthritis also benefit a lot from swimming.

Being a water sport swimming has less chances of physical injuries which is a very important criteria that needs to be considered by diabetics. Try making a group of friends and swim together as this might make it less solitary and might instigate you to regularity.

To achieve desired results one must set goals. Your goals should aim at reducing the time taken to swim a certain number of laps, being able to swim for a certain time or distance at one time, learning a new stroke, joining a group of swimmers with similar interests, etc. make your activity more fun instead of mundane and boring.

Go plunge into the water – all you will give up is a lot of weight, depression and poor sugar levels!!!
